‘Putin is clearly in Xi’s pocket’, says US ambassador to Japan

In a wide-ranging interview with CNA’s Asia firstly, US ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel spoke about recent global developments, including Russia’s air attacks in Ukraine just as Chinese President Xi Jinping departed Russia next a three-day visit. The talks between the two leaders involved a peace plan to resolve the war in Ukraine.

Mr Emanuel, who was also chief of staff to former US President Barack Obama, said that current US President Joe Biden’s approach has been to energise alliances in the Indo-Pacific region to work together.
