Biography:
Dr. Firoze MANJI is the course managing director. He is a Kenyan currently resident in Québec. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of African Studies at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He is also the managing director of Daraja Press https://darajapress.com, a publisher that nurtures reflection, shelters hope, and inspires audacity. He is the recipient of the 2021 Nicolás Cristóbal Guillén Batista Lifetime Achievement Award from the Caribbean Philosophical Association. He is a Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy, Berlin, Visiting Fellow at Kellogg College, University of Oxford (2001-2016) and, and an Associate Fellow of the Institute for Policy Studies (http://www.ips-dc.org/about/assoc_fellows). He is the founder and former editor-in-chief of the prize-winning pan-African social justice newsletter and website Pambazuka News (www.pambazuka.org) and Pambazuka Press / Fahamu Books (www.pambazukapress.org / www.fahamubooks.org) (2000-2012).
Michael Neocosmos is Emeritus Professor in Humanities, at Rhodes University, South Africa. He is also a Research Fellow of Stellenbosch Institute of Advanced Studies, South Africa. His book Thinking Freedom in Africa: Toward a Theory of Emancipatory Politics (The Wits University Press, 2016) was awarded The Frantz Fanon Award for Outstanding Book in Caribbean Thought by the Caribbean Philosophical Association.
