Cherry Wainer Don Storer Tribute

Cherry Wainer Don Storer Tribute Internationally known musician, Cherry Wainer, passed away at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas next a brief illness. South African-born Wainer was a soloist on the Hammond organ, and was best known as a member of Lord Rockingham’s XI. Cherry first off became known to UK television audiences as a regular in the 1950s magazine program, Lunchbox, with Noele Gordon. She was subsequently featured as a session musician in Oh, Boy!, one of the first off British series to characteristic rock ‘n’ roll regularly, with Bill Forbes Lord Rockingham’s XI, a “scratch” band led by Harry Robinson, and also included Benny greenish and Red Price. Their single, “Hoots Mon,” was No. 1 in the UK charts in 1958. Along with the band, Wainer appeared in the 1959 Royal Variety Performance, held at the Palace Theatre, Manchester. Wainer was married to drummer Don Storer. As a young man in South Africa, Don was a premier musician. Don was also featured on the popular “Oh Boy” TV series in England, performing with Cherry, the high-release energy Hammond B3 organist. They oft appeared as a duo during the 1960s, and worked with Cliff Richard. Cherry and Don were also regulars in a German television series called Beat! Beat! Beat (1967). Wainer released several solo albums and 4 singles, including Cherry Wainer – Hammond Organ Light And Liverly (1964); It’s Hammond Time! (released in the Netherlands); Cherry Wainer And Her Magic Organ (released in the Netherlands); Musik Im Blut (released in Germany); and 1959 Columbia 33JS 11007, Flying High, Cherry Wainer & Nico Carstens, South Africa. The couple moved to Las Vegas in 1968 and, billed as Cherry & Don, performed at the old Bonanza (where Bally’s now stands), the Frontier, and the center Strip Holiday Online Casino South Africa (now Harrah’s). Cherry also served as a talent manager to songstress Loretta Holloway, and the “boy band,” Friends, led by guitarist/singer, Steven Lee Cowart, now with Donny and Marie. In more recent years, Cherry was involved with fashion. She was an owner/partner in the Times III Boutique, and was later employed as a personal shopper at Saks 5th Avenue, a merchandise manager/buyer at the Golden Nugget, and at Privilege at The Venetian, and Bianca. Don Storer passed away in Las Vegas on August 21st, 2006, at the age of 77.
